Dr. Jacob Aguiar, trained as a primary care naturopathic doctor, works with each patient to create personalized and effective treatment solutions.
Prior to receiving his Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine from Bastyr University in Seattle, a world leader in educating naturopathic physicians, he received his BA in anthropology from Dartmouth College, graduating Magna Cum Laude.
He discovered in a class titled “The Anthropology of Health and Illness” that rarely is any disease confined to the physical body or the psyche alone. Rather, the experience of health and dis-ease is a complex interplay of social, economic, psychological, and physical factors.
Having a particular interest in Lyme disease and associated infections, Dr Aguiar has studied the work of many leading experts in Lyme diagnosis and treatment, including Dr Klinghardt MD, Dr Horowitz MD, Dr Ross MD, and Dr Burrascano, MD. Further, he has spent many hours learning from Drs Hecht, Fassler, and Quinn at North Coast Family Health. He was inspired to join North Coast Family Health after seeing the dramatic health improvements of patients being properly diagnosed and treated. He continues to deepen his knowledge and stay up to date with current research by attending International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society (ILADS) conferences and other related conferences throughout the year.
As an expert in natural medicine, he integrates each of these aspects of the self into personalized care for each patient. He believes that when we are physically, emotionally, and cognitively healthy, have meaningful relationships, and our life’s work aligns with our beliefs and values, we experience true health.
Dr. Aguiar’s particular medical interests include: Lyme disease, brain health (including depression, anxiety, ADHD, cognitive decline and Alzheimer’s disease), men’s health (including Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy, low libido, erectile dysfunction, low energy, and loss of muscle mass), cardiovascular disease and diabetes, drugless pain management, natural stress reduction, autoimmune disease, and optimizing the health of the business person.
He has pursued additional training in these areas, including specialized medical rotations, and has witnessed the power of naturopathic medicine in bringing improvement in, or even complete resolution to, long standing disease.
Attaining health is a process, and Dr. Aguiar provides proven solutions while supporting and empowering you along the way. He works with each patient’s desires, beliefs, and values to develop a treatment and management approach that works.
Dr. Aguiar played four years of varsity soccer at Dartmouth, helping his team to a Sweet Sixteen appearance his junior year. Set in the Upper Valley of New Hampshire, Dartmouth afforded many opportunities for outdoor adventures as well as a rigorous academic experience. He was fortunate to meet his wife, Laura, during his junior year and their family has recently grown to include a Bernese Mountain Dog puppy named Bernie.
Dr. Aguiar is still an avid soccer player and you may find him playing a game of pick-up or dribbling a ball at a local soccer field with Bernie. In addition to playing soccer, he enjoys all forms of vigorous exercise, including cycling, running, hiking, and lifting weights. He is also an avid landscape painter and you may find him with his easel and paints trying to capture the seasons of New England. If you see him out and about, feel free to say hi.
He looks forward to working with you to help you establish and reach your personal health goals.
