Allison suffered from severe anxiety. She was unable to be home alone without feeling like someone was going to break into the house and rape or murder her.
Dr. Fassler listened carefully to her health history and prescribed a homeopathic remedy. Within three months, Allison’s anxiety was 95% gone. She is on a healthy diet and is exercising regularly.
Linda was referred to our office by a local family doctor to be treated for back pain and asthma. She was very asthmatic and required the use of her inhaler 4 to 5 times per day. Dr. Fassler studied her case after taking a complete health history and found Linda needed a relatively unknown homeopathic remedy.
One month later, Linda returned and said, “I wish I could send you a bouquet of flowers every day! My back pain and asthma are totally gone!” She has had minor recurrences of her symptoms, but is generally pain free and asthma free two to three years later.
Many patients come to us with trouble in the intestinal area. We find these patients most commonly have Irritable Bowel Disease (IBS), Crohn’s Disease, or Ulcerative Colitis. One case that stands out occurred in 1995.
Ann initially came in when she had acute abdominal pain. She told Dr. Hecht how she had 10-12 stools a day with blood and mucous and severe abdominal pain. Upon examination, her abdomen was extremely tender and swollen. Ann was obviously in great danger and at once she was referred to the hospital. She stayed at the hospital for 10 days, almost lost her entire large bowel to infection and was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis.
She returned to our office shortly afterwards taking steroids, antibiotics and suppositories. These drugs had perhaps saved her life, but now the deep work would begin. After extensive allergy testing, a stool digestive analysis and culture, and a complete personal history, Ann went onto a special diet tailored to her specific condition.
She was supplemented with nutritional and plant based medicines to heal her intestines and at the same time reduce her reactivity to foods. She was prescribed a homeopathic remedy that matched her specific constitutional nature. Even though she was low in iron from her intestinal bleeding, when she ingested iron she bled more. Therefore, she received iron injections.
Over the next 6 months she began to heal. She noticed less pain, bleeding only with specific foods instead of all the time. A year later she had no blood, no pain, no loose stools and was symptom free.
Betty was a nurse and had worked in the operating room for many years. Unfortunately, she also suffered from colitis, an inflammatory condition of the lower colon, usually treated with medications and if severe enough, surgical removal of the affected area of the colon. Betty also had recurrent sinus infections.
Dr. Fassler took her health history and she was tested for food allergies and anti-gliadin antibodies to make sure she didn’t have a gluten allergy, or undiagnosed Celiac disease, which she did not. Betty avoided her food allergens and took her homeopathic remedy as prescribed.
Her colitis improved as did her sinus infection and she developed a dermatitis on her hands, like eczema for a while, which then cleared. It is normal that as deeper inflammations heal, such as colitis, arthritis, and asthma, a rash appears on the skin temporarily, which indicates the inflammation is moving from the inside of the body to the outside. It is very important that topical cortisone cream not be used on the rash or the inflammation will be suppressed back to the deeper tissues in the body.
A local primary care doctor referred Arlene to be treated for extensive eczema, a very itchy, scaly and red rash. The eczema was on her torso and arms, neck and face.
At the end of her initial health interview, the doctor determined she needed a specific homeopathic remedy and some nutritional supplements. Her Elisa food allergy test indicated about ten moderate food allergies that Arlene avoided for the most part. Initially, the eczema was much worse as it had been suppressed for a year or more with topical cortisone creams.
Within 2 months, the eczema had cleared from her face, neck and torso and was primarily on her arms and hands. The eczema was totally resolved within 4 to 5 months and one year later, she continues to be eczema free and is able to eat foods she had been allergic to without problems.
Mrs. B came into our clinic with a diagnosis of fibromyalgia and osteoporosis. She had been having symptoms of joint and muscle pain for 2 years and been given high doses of steroids, which relieved her symptoms but caused her to have osteoporosis. She was very tired, but yet had insomnia. Mrs. B ached all over, especially her shoulders, thighs, and back, was extremely fatigued, and thinks her depression was resulting from not feeling well. Her adrenal stress test, which is a very sensitive indicator of her adrenal gland function, demonstrated her to be low in adrenal hormone throughout the day and night.
When this was corrected, Mrs. B’s energy, mood and muscle pains progressively diminished in a period of 4 weeks, in which time she had returned to her former healthy self. We are now focusing on increasing her bone density with supplementation, diet and exercise, and will do repeat bone density testing yearly to be sure she gains bone mass to keep her healthy.
Shirley complained of chronic fibromyalgia, a condition causing her to be in constant pain throughout her body for many years.
Dr. Fassler took a careful health history and prescribed a newly researched homeopathic remedy. One month later, she was pain free and two years later, she continues to be pain free. Her rapid response to treatment can partly be attributed to her healthy diet and exercise habits.
If patients are deficient in nutrients or have toxins that are literally poisoning their cells, recovery from such a serious condition can take a year or more. Shirley periodically needs to repeat her homeopathic remedy and she has been treated for menopausal concerns as well.
After working with a patient on heart disease risk factors and general wellness, Dr. Fassler received this note from the patient:
“I had an appointment with my primary care physician this morning. I thought you might like to know he was very pleased. My cholesterol is right where it should be and all vitals were excellent. [The PCP] told me he was very proud of me and I did it without drugs. I smiled and thanked him, but I was thinking Dr. Fassler and I did it without drugs! Thank you!”
Sue had a very painful condition called interstitial cystitis, which caused her to urinate approximately every 45 minutes and to be in chronic pain in her bladder region. Needless to say, it was extremely limiting for her. The following is her story in her own words:
“I suffered with interstitial cystitis, a chronic bladder inflammation for which Western medicine claims the cause and cure are unknown. My condition began in December of 1990 and progressed to the point where, by 1997, I was experiencing some level of pain pretty much every minute of every day; I was needing a bathroom around the clock, 25 to 30 times a day. I dreaded traveling; I could never sleep much more than an hour at a time; and I was afraid I would not be able to keep working.
By the time I went to see Dr. Fassler in June 1999, I had been controlling some of the pain with two drugs that left me feeling always fatigued; plus I still had urgency, frequency and unpredictable flares of serious pain. Dr. Fassler prescribed a homeopathic remedy and some dietary supplements. To my amazement, I not only did not return to previous levels and frequency of pain, but I was actually beginning to feel better!
I was able to gradually wean off of my pain medications and 6 to 14 months later felt amazingly normal most of the time. I’ve been working a normal, 40-hour week.
Sue has lost 25 pounds and looks forward to walking three miles a day in addition to her work and family routines.”
She meets with Dr. Fassler approximately every 3 to 4 months to adjust her therapies and discuss natural solutions for menopausal health concerns.
This is an exciting case about a woman having an eye condition called macular degeneration. This condition developed gradually over a number of years and resulted in considerable loss of vision in both of Ava’s eyes. While she could still drive, she could only read and knit for fifteen minutes at a time. Her ability to discern visual details such as a face, a painting, or something at a distance was severely compromised. Her ophthalmologist (eye doctor) documented her condition with photographs of her retina and said nothing could be done but wait for further degeneration and to schedule an appointment in six months.
We began IV therapy using a formula designed to stimulate repair to the retina (the back of the eye). By the second week she could read for longer periods of time. By the 4th week she noticed the cream-colored dining room tablecloth with which she had been entertaining had spots on it. She read an entire book in two days by the fifth week. She returned to her eye doctor three months early to show him her progress and explained that she could now see much better than months prior. Her exam showed significant regeneration had taken place in her retina!
I wanted to share this case not to say that everyone will have as dramatic results as this case of macular degeneration, but to demonstrate the potential of intravenous nutritional therapies to treat many chronic illnesses. “Fatigue of unknown origin” often responds within a few treatments, when other causes of fatigue have not been identified. Providing the essential building blocks of nutrition can often help a person heal when their intestines are not absorbing nutrients effectively or when their cells are seriously depleted.
Edith came to the office complaining of foggy thinking, poor memory, poor sleep, no energy, daily asthma attacks, overweight and lack of confidence.
The doctor took an extensive health interview and did some basic laboratory testing and Elisa Food allergy testing, involving a simple blood test that tests 190 foods for allergic reactivity. Tests showed Edith was hypothyroid and had some severe food allergies to eggs and dairy products. She was prescribed whole gland thyroid, a homeopathic remedy, and asked to avoid her food allergens.
Within 2 months, Edith was feeling 30 to 40% better. She found she had more energy, more mental clarity and was for the first time in many years enthusiastic about life.
She met with Dr. Fassler approximately every 6 to 10 weeks for about a year to monitor her progress towards optimal health. Two years after her initial appointment, Edith lost 20 to 30 pounds, rarely needed her inhaler or had allergy symptoms, and had enough energy to keep up with her two grandchildren.
Samantha had first been diagnosed with type I diabetes at age 16. When she first came to our clinic at age 39, her blood sugar would go from 40 to 400 in 2 hours, more than a few times a day. Her emotions were on a similar roller coaster. She would often awake with very high glucose levels, not knowing why or how it could be prevented. Samantha often thought, on some level, that she was a bad person because she was failing to control her blood sugar. Even though she had 3 healthy, intelligent, beautiful children and a supportive and caring husband, Samantha thought she was failing on a fundamental level in life, as the years rolled by with chronically elevated blood sugars.
Shortly after Dr. Hecht had begun to see Samantha, he learned of a system of controlling blood sugars pioneered by Dr. Richard Bernstein, also a Type I diabetic. After studying his writings and visiting him in his clinic in New York a number of times, Dr. Hecht consulted with Samantha again. They began to explore the “Bernstein Diet”, and modified her insulin dosing, diet and supplementation.
This point was the beginning of Samantha’s return to normal blood sugars. After being on the Bernstein Diet for 3 years, they continue to refine her diet and adjust her insulin levels, as well as supplement with nutrients prescribed to help regenerate and protect her body from the ravages of 25 years of high blood sugar.
At the last blood test, Samantha’s average 3- month blood sugar was 105, and she is in more control of her emotions as well because she has stable blood sugars.
Denise had Type II diabetes for 20 years when she came to us in the spring of 1998. She was numb from her knees to her toes; her eyes had hemorrhaged repeatedly causing near blindness in one eye; her blood sugars averaged 300 (normal is 80 to 100) and she was always tired. She injected massive amounts of insulin to drive her blood sugar down, but then became hypoglycemic later in the day. Her emotions fluctuated as much as her blood sugars. She was frustrated that she had no control over her life or her body.
As of her last appointment: Her leg numbness had now moved downwards, with only her toes slightly numb and this will be resolved soon. Denise’s blood sugars now average 104, well within the normal range (as opposed to an average of 300, 2 years ago). She doesn’t have the wild fluctuations she had in the past. She continues to have trouble with her eyes, but, overall they are improved.
While she has to pay close attention to her diet, insulin and natural medicines, she has been given “another lease on life” with her treatment at North Coast Family Health.
